Reimbursement
Consultations are not reimbursed by Dutch healthcare insurance. This has a number of advantages:

No waiting list - You are welcome for an intake without waiting time and we can start therapy the following week.

Freedom of therapy choice - We have the freedom to use contemporary psychological therapies (CBT, ACT, MBCT, EMDR, etc.) without being limited by them. Usually, something deeper, at the soul level, is also needed.

Personal informatie and files - No personal information or mental healthcare files are sent to healthcare insurers or other organizations. During therapy, I maintain a minimal file, which will be deleted after the treatment.

DSM diagnosis record in your file / EPD - Currently, you may experience symptoms that could be classified as a psychological disorder (DSM diagnosis). This is most likely a temporary condition. No DSM diagnosis or codification will be recorded in your electronic health record (EPD) with your GP or other healthcare providers.

Minimal administrative distractions - Administrative tasks and reporting in mental healthcare files are experienced as a major workload by psychologists. These tasks require valuable energy, distracting us from the essence of the treatment. During our therapy, there is minimal administrative distraction. All attention is on you.

Comparison with reimbursed mental healthcare
What is the difference in costs with mental healthcare that you can choose yourself (niet-gecontracteerde zorg) and that is reimbursed by healthcare insurance? It may be smaller than you may think. A typical 7-session treatment with a psychologist usually costs 7 x €142 (NZA rate for a GZ-psycholoog) = €994. The €385 deductible (eigen risico) is paid by yourself; the remaining €609 is reimbursed at a rate of 70% on average: €426. The costs then comes down to €994 - €426 = €568.
